Since 2019

A former upholstery shop with better plans.

Fernwhistle started with a practical idea: the band should sound good, the burger should be good, and nobody should have to guess what time anything starts.

How it started

June Haralson and Teddy Ocampo opened Fernwhistle in 2019. June brought a dozen years of road-tested music sense. Teddy brought fifteen years in Athens kitchens. Together, they made the kind of neighborhood room they wanted to visit.

“We wanted a room where the band sounds good, the burger is good, and nobody has to guess what time anything starts.”June Haralson

The people in the room

June Haralson

Co-owner, books the music

June played bass on the road for twelve years before opening Fernwhistle. She books every act that comes through the room.

Teddy Ocampo

Co-owner and chef

Teddy cooked in Athens kitchens for fifteen years before putting his own kitchen behind the bar.

Lorna Biggers

Bar manager

Lorna has spent ten years behind Athens bars and runs a steady, welcoming room.

Ray Odom

Sound engineer

Ray runs the board for every weekend show, keeping the room clear from the first note to the last.

“Wednesday pickin’ circle is the best free night in town. Bring a mandolin or just bring a chair.”Sam R., Watkinsville
“We got there at 8:30 for a 9:30 band and still had time for the catfish.”Dee M., Winterville
“Our rehearsal dinner was in the music room. Teddy fed 60 people and June found us a bluegrass trio.”Carla and Ben T., Bogart
